A person would think that something terrible is happening other than, “Room 2′s food is ready.” They run up and down the halls, clearing away, delivering large amounts of food and shouting out orders. The restaurant in Changsha had a main dining room filled with business people and rows of individual rooms for guests to eat in. Hunan food is fiery and our choices didn’t disappoint. A tasty beef with peppers. Eggplant with green beans and major amounts of peppers. Spinach with peppers. Good thing we like spicy verging on incendiary foods!

Remy Eats Szechuan Peppercorns (Food Oddities – www.foododdities.com)

At first glance, a name like Szechuan Peppercorns implies something pretty ordinary. Szechuan cooking? Everyone’s tried it. At least everyone who’s dug any deeper into Chinese cooking than General Tso’s Chicken. (That’s a bit of a joke – General Tso’s Chicken is probably an American creation. Look it up.) Consider the fact that Szechuan Peppercorns are not related to pepper. Consider the fact that they contain a strange chemical called hydroxy-alpha-sanshool that does something kind of unique in the mouth. Intrigued? Remy was. Dig in!
